  1. when you open storefront, it says “before you begin, create a new deployment or join existing on…” Even after creating new deployment and uninstalled and reinstalled storefront. Then installed dot net first and then reinstalled. and had no problems.

  2. No qfarm commands in xd7. use powershell instead

  3. The ‘StoreFront’ node under ‘Configuration’ in Citrix Studio is all about configuring StoreFront URL addresses that become configured on XenDesktop VDA machines, such that the user sessions on those machines, when they start Receiver in the session, get connected to the appropriate StoreFront servers to serve the appropriate apps etc for those users. That node is not about configuring the settings within the local StoreFront server. Once the one or more StoreFront URL values are set up in that node, then those URLs can be associated with delivery groups and all VDAs in those delivery groups get configured with those StoreFront URLs in their registry. The separate StoreFront MMC snapin is for configuring the settings of the StoreFront cluster, which is the same as for stand-alone StoreFront clusters separate from any XenDesktop site.

  4. Not able to connect to 2008 R2 vms and apps on it, on pvs. this is coz logons disabled via AD group policy. The VDA reads the following four Microsoft registry values to determine whether logons are enabled in Remote Desktop Services: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\fDenyTSConnections HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\WinStationsDisabled HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\TSServerDrainMode For each value, zero or not present is used to indicate logons are enabled.

  5. There is no Quick Deploy option in xd 7. If you want to enable intellicache, enable it in xenserver while installing it. IntelliCache is disabled by default in XenDesktop. You can enable it when you are adding a host, provided the XenServer pool is XenServer 5.6 Service Pack 2 or later. You can update the setting only when the host is created; you cannot disable IntelliCache at a later date. The option to enable IntelliCache is not available if you are configuring a site using Quick Deploy. When you are adding a XenServer host and you are prompted for the type of storage to use, select Shared. Select Use IntelliCache to reduce load on the shared storage.

  6. I have a machine catalog of 10 Windows 7 VMs. When I start the VM I can ping the DDC and vise versa. The machines show up as “Registered” in Citrix Studio. When I login to Receiver it automatically tries to start the virtual desktop. The virtual desktop starts, I get the login notification screen where you have to press “OK” to accept the Acceptable Use Policy and then it says “Welcome…” with the spinning cirlce. It spins here for a while then the Receiver client with the virtual desktop closes and goes back to the home screen. Here, the virtual desktop icon is listed with a green dot, meaning the virtual desktop is running. However, in XenServer, I can see the VM shutting down. There are no entries in the Event Logs on the DDC or on the VDA client. I’ve confirmed with XDping and manual reg entries that the VDA client is able to resolve the name/IP of the DDC. It’s also registering successfully as evidence by the status indicated on the DDC in Citrix Studio under “Search”. **soln:**You need to allow more time for the login process to complete which can be set via registry key. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Citrix\PortICA Add a new DWORD AutoLogonTimeout and set the value to decimal 240.

  7. You might see the error, The vsphere(or sccm) address was not formatted correctly when you are trying to create catalog.  when you enter the hypervisor name and at username column enter domain\username rather than only username. Normally we enter administrator as username. We already have a normal local admin account as administrator. so we get this error.

  8. Activate your master image before you create machine catalog.

  9. When you create the catalog, MCS does the following: A) Copy the snapshot to a datastore B) Power on the copied snapshot C) Run slmgr.vbs /rearm and other Image Prep tasks. If the machine is not activated           and if there are no rearms remaining then rearm will fail. However, if the machine         is activated with KMS then rearm is always successful. D) Power off the copied snapshot. E) Create linked clones that boot from the copied snapshot.

  10. I am trying to enable folder redirection for my “Desktop” folder to the share location. Has done the following:

    1. Launch GPMC 2) Created OU “Vdi” 3) Created GPO and Link it on “Vdi” OU 4) Edit the newly created GPO 5) Go to Computer Configuration | Policies, and right-click on Administrative Templates and Load Citrix Template (ADM) to the AD server via GPMC 6) Go to User Configuration | Policies | Administrative Template | Classic Administrative Template | Citrix | Profile Management | Folder Redirection | Desktop and double-click “Redirect Desktop folder” and set the path to \\SHARE\home$\#SAMAccountName#. Now file/folders saved in desktop are not redirected.

Soln: Do not add usernames or folder names to this path. if you set this path to the Desktop folder as \\server\share\, to the user this is redirected as \\server\share\\Desktop.
