Migrating steps to citrix cloud

Website Visitors:

Steps to migrate to citrix cloud:

Step1: Login to your cloud connector vm. This is just a regular vm with server os. Check out Citrix Cloud Connector System Requirements and Details page for more information on cloud connector vm.

Step2: Login to cloud.citrix.com in your cloud connector vm and create a resource location.

Step3: Next Click on cloud connector. This will download cloud connector software.

Step3: Run cloud connector software. You will be prompted to choose your customer and resource location. Enter details and click install. Wait till cloud connector software is installed.

Step4: Next, step is to download vda for your master image. You can do this in two ways:

  1. In your vda master image machine, login to your citrix cloud portal, click on xenapp and xendesktop service(under my services), and click manage. This will route to xenapp.cloud.com and in that site, on top right, you have download option. Download vda software for your vda.(OR)
  2. You can go to regular citrix.com site and goto downloads, and choose server vda or client vda. That works too.

Note1 : If you already have 7.x vda, you can use it. Just change the delivery controller server to point to cloud connector. All vda after 7.x are supported.

Note2: If you are using cloud like azure or aws for your VDIs, your cloud connector should be installed in your VDI cloud(azure or aws, not on prem or citrix cloud).

Step5: In your master image, run vda software. uncheck options for appv personalization, if you dont need appv personalization. Receiver is optional, if you dont run any citrix apps inside vda, dont install it. For controller address enter your cloud connector server name fqdn as delivery controller name. change Optimize options if needed and install.

Step6: Open any browser, login to citrix.cloud.com and in xenapp and xendesktop services, click manage. This will redirect to xenapp.cloud.com. Click on manage. This looks like a regular citrix studio. By default your cloud connector server will be shown in initial zone. Create another zone and move your server to that zone if needed.

Step7: Next step is to add hosting resources. Click on Hosting and add a hypervisor as you do on local install. While adding your hypervisor choose your zone correctly, and leave rest of all other settings as applicable like storage, network etc.

Step8: Create machine catalog next and delivery group. All steps are same as local install. While configuring users in delivery group, we have an additional option to leave user management to citrix cloud. If you choose this option, you need to go to citrix cloud library(click on top left bars next to citrix cloud heading, and click on library) and choose your desktops or apps and assign users.

Note: Click on your cloud connector option and you can check memory, cpu, network usage and disk utilization on your cloud connectors.

Step9: We are done with publishing apps. To get the storefront link, in cloud.citrix.com portal, on top left, click on 3 bars, choose xenapp and xendesktop service. This will redirect to xenapp.cloud.com. Under manage, choose service delivery. You would see a link under cloud hosted storefront. This is your storefront link. You can turn it off if you don’t want to provision storefront in citrix cloud.

Step10: So far, user can connect to his applications from company’s internal network. If users need this access outside their company’s network, they have to implement netscaler. Netscaler will talk to cloud connector and it would communicate with cloud resources and vda and so on. At same page where you got storefront link, you also have netscaler option. You can enable and use it(charges apply). You can use your own netscaler or use cloud netscaler. But citrix recommends using cloud netscaler as that would be latest one with all latest and greatest updates on it. Netscaler link would be same as storefront link.

Note: If you have on prem storefront, add your cloud connector to on prem storefront so that you can access your VDIs and apps using your on prem storefront.
