What is citrix cloud?

Citrix Cloud is a platform that hosts and administers Citrix services. It connects to your resources through the Citrix Cloud Connector on any cloud or infrastructure you choose (on-premises, public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud). It allows you to create, manage, and deploy workspaces with apps and data to your end-users from a single console.

Citrix Cloud Services

XenApp and XenDesktop Service

The XenApp and XenDesktop Service offers secure access to virtual Windows, Linux, and web apps and desktops. This service is based on XenApp and XenDesktop technology.

XenMobile Service

The XenMobile Service provides comprehensive enterprise mobility management (EMM) including mobile device management, mobile application management, and enterprise-grade productivity apps. Based on XenMobile technology, the service also enables IT to quickly create pilot environments and experience faster production time with EMM deployment.

ShareFile

The ShareFile Service enables you to sync, share, and secure content from the cloud and your on-premises storage services. A ShareFile account comes with your Citrix Cloud subscription.

Citrix Smart Tools

Smart Tools enables you to deploy and manage Citrix workloads such as XenDesktop, XenApp, XenMobile, and NetScaler. You can also proactively check the health of your XenApp and XenDesktop Sites, receive notifications of applicable component updates, and control Delivery Group scaling and associated resource usage costs.

NetScaler Management and Analytics Service

The NetScaler Management and Analytics Service provides an easy and scalable solution to manage NetScaler deployments on-premises or on the cloud from a single, unified, and centralized cloud based console. It provides all the capabilities required to quickly set up, deploy, and manage application delivery in NetScaler deployments and with rich analytics of application health, performance, and security.

What services are managed by citrix and what services are managed by customer?

Citrix cloud: Delivery controller, Database(also a service), License Server, storefront and management tools - studio, director. On Prem: Active directory and cloud connector.

If you want to edit storefront, you can use your own storefront server, if not you can use cloud storefront. Same for netscaler too.

Citrix cloud is USA based, starting in europe. Citrix cloud is available in German, Spanish, English, French languages.

Version update release cycle is every 3 weeks for xenap and xendesktop. First updates are released to cloud and then released to general public. LTSR is released every 2 years.

Citrix cloud requirements:

Citrix Cloud requires the following minimum configuration:

  • An Active Directory domain
  • Two physical or virtual machines for the Citrix Cloud Connector. For more information, see Citrix Cloud Connector Technical Details.
  • Physical or virtual machines, joined to your domain, for hosting workloads and other components such as StoreFront. For more information, see XenApp and XenDesktop System Requirements.
